thebigword Attends the Opening of the New Wortley Community Centre’s IT Suite

thebigword was honoured to attend the official opening of the brand-new IT Suite at New Wortley Community Centre, launched by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr. Abigail Marshall Katung. This fantastic new facility, funded by Leeds City Council, will provide essential IT skills training, employment preparation, and other vital services to empower local residents.

New Wortley Community Centre plays a crucial role in supporting residents in New Wortley and the wider Armley ward, offering services ranging from health and wellbeing support to employment assistance, a community café, training courses, volunteering opportunities, and even laundry services. Their dedication to fostering a happier, healthier community is truly inspiring.

Andrea Edwards, CEO at New Wortley Community Centre, said:

We also welcomed all our partners who have supported our journey supporting diverse communities living in our neighbourhoods. Thanks go to Sheila Nash at thebigword, who in 2024 presented to our Conversation Club members around their services, including the translation of documentation, and has continued to support our organisation as we move into 2025.”

At thebigword, we are passionate about supporting our local community, and over the past year, our ED&I and CSR Committees have built a strong relationship with New Wortley Community Centre.
