thebigword Awarded Home Office Interpreting Contract

thebigword has been awarded the contract to deliver Face to Face Interpreting for the UK Government’s Home Office. The four-year contract was awarded following a rigorous evaluation and is the first time that the Home Office has outsourced its Face to Face interpreting needs.

thebigword, one of the world’s top 15 language services companies, already holds contracts to provide Telephone Interpreting services for the Home Office and across a range of Government departments.  However, Face to Face interpreters are also required for specific circumstances, such as: sensitive discussions, distressing circumstances, situations where children are involved, and to comply with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).

Under the new contract, which starts immediately, thebigword will be able to provide Face to Face interpreters for more than 250 different languages and dialects through a single point of contact.  thebigword has invested heavily in IT and telephony systems which have considerably simplified the booking procedure, enabling users to book an interpreter through one call to its dedicated UK-based call centre.

thebigword has been awarded the contract based on its proven track record in delivering high quality translation and telephone interpreting at competitive prices with a high degree of management information and personal account management.

James Williams, European Interpreting Sales Director at thebigword, says: “thebigword is proud to be a full service company for the Home Office, providing for its language needs 24/7.  This contract will provide a high-quality, cost-effective language service for the Home Office and will also protect and create jobs in our two UK offices.”
