thebigword Celebrates Yorkshire Day

From our picturesque Dales and Moors, to the historic cities of York and Ripon; from the seaside fun of Scarborough and Whitby, to the majesty of Harewood House and Castle Howard: it’s no wonder we’re called God’s Own Country.

Famous for flat caps and whippets, Yorkshire puddings and parkin, our county punches above its weight in so many ways. We’ve conquered the worlds of film and television (Dame Judi Dench, Sir Patrick Stewart); music (“Scary Spice” Melanie Brown, Artic Monkeys); literature (the Brontë sisters, Helen Fielding); art and sculpture (Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore); sport (Jessica Ennis-Hill, the Brownlee brothers); and science and technology (John Smeaton, Amy Johnson).

We are even the birthplace of pioneering translator John Wycliffe! Born and bred in the Yorkshire Village of Hipswell, he is globally renowned for his role in translating and transcribing the many forms of the Bible into common English.

With our own dialect (ee bah gum!), fierce pride, and no-nonsense attitude, Yorkshire folk are some of the most down-to-earth, yet thoroughly friendly people you could ever meet.

Yorkshire has been at the forefront of industry since the Industrial Revolution so it’s no surprise that Leeds has been the ideal hub from which our company has served our clients since 1980. Despite our global growth, our Leeds HQ remains the heart of the company.

To celebrate Yorkshire Day at thebigword in Leeds we will be hosting a variety of activities ranging from a Yorkshire themed dress down day to a traditional Yorkshire roast dinner for lunch and most importantly thebigword bake-off. thebigword bake off will see staff demonstrating their baking skills by bringing in the yummiest of cakes and pastries into work, whilst getting the chance to taste and test the culinary delights of their colleagues. The most popular baker will be named the winner and awarded a day’s paid holiday.
