Remote interpreting surge

Global Language technology company thebigword Group is seeing a growing number of clients move away from traditional face to face/onsite interpreting and embrace Remote Interpreting encompassing Telephone and Video.

At the start of the Coronavirus pandemic alternative forms of interpreting to onsite were a necessity, but as most of us have adapted to new ways of working, thebigword has continued to see Telephone Interpreting and Video Remote Interpreting volumes increase.

Since July alone, thebigword has seen a 30% increase in Telephone Interpreting volumes and the trajectory is for this to continue to increase. By October Telephone Interpreting volumes were 53% higher than pre-COVID levels, demonstrating impressive scalability. One public sector client in the UK has seen TI volumes double since the beginning of the pandemic. Video Remote Interpreting volumes have also increased month on month since March.

At the same time, TI and VRI are more cost-effective solutions for clients as the need for linguist travel is completely removed.

Chief Commercial Officer, Clare Riches said: “We have seen a massive increase in demand for Remote Interpreting solutions since the pandemic, but we have the resources and capacity to upscale at an anytime without compromising on quality.”

“The COVID-19 pandemic has really changed the way many of our clients operate but at thebigword we have the tools and technology to ensure that they continue to receive the same high quality interpreting services in court rooms, hospitals and elsewhere whilst maintaining safety measures to protect our linguists, and service users.”

thebigword’s Remote Interpreting services are accessed via thebigword’s all-in-one language technology platform, WordSynk.

The company’s smart technology enables users to select linguist attributes such as security clearance, qualifications, sector expertise and gender. Our system matches the right linguist for each appointment type.
